facebook, twilight, reality tv and a dem in the white house

my poor sad, lonely blog.  it hasn't been the same since i discovered facebook.  sigh.

i'm totally hooked on twilight.  i admit that i was somewhat, ok very, resistant to reading the books.  i finally gave in and life hasn't been the same since. who knew that i could fall into literary love with a vampire.

i'm loving the bachelor and the biggest loser again this season.  i was a fan of jason when he was on the bachelorette so i was happy to see him as the bachelor this season.  also, hooked on season 3 of big love on HBO.  good stuff.

oh, and how about our new president!  so this is what it feels like to vote for a winner!  =)    i am thrilled beyond words to have a dem in the white house again.

lastly, high school lacrosse season has started.  looking foward to being on the sidelines and snapping a pic or two for the east ridge knights.  i admit that going into this i know nothing about LAX . it should be an interesting and educational season for me.

    baking and such

typically it's around this time of the year, when my mixer gets promoted from cabinet space to kitchen counter real estate.  everytime i get it down, i think to myself that i should leave it out year round because i really like the way it looks....but, by the time that the end of the holiday season rolls around, i remember why it is that it's main home is in a cabinet.  it just takes up too much space.

i suppose i should have cleaned her up a bit before her photo shoot but, her she is, flour covered and in all her glory.   today she helped me make banana bread.  to be honest, i'm not the best banana bread baker but, ming put in a request so i decided to give it a try.  i used a *light* receipe that i don't think i've ever tried before so we'll see how it turns out.

in other kitchen related news, since i had my camera out, i also snapped a pic of my keurig coffee maker that i'm always talking about.  if you love or even just like coffee, this machine is for you!  it makes indivual cups of coffee, tea and hot chocoloate in less than 60 seconds.

    Busy Girl

    yep. that's me these days.

here's what i've been up to:

i've added a second job of sorts onto what i'm doing over at the hospital.  about a month ago, the director of the department launched a pilot program to try and improve the length of stay for the hospitals medicare patients.  she asked me if i was interested in doing some education and training with regards to this new effort.  now, each day i spend about an hour or so on the floors working on this new program. i'm working closely with a nurse and teaching her the basics of coding. initially, i was only contracted for a month however, we've had positive feedback from the physicians so i've been given the green light to continue it for the next several months.  i'm really enjoying teaching again and i like interacting with the physicians.  the only draw back is that i have to be in earlier than my usually scheduled time, so that's been a bit of a challenge for me.   let's just say that i've been drinking more coffee than ever before.  good thing i got my keurig.  it's getting lots of use!

the other big thing that's going on you can check out  for yourself over @ www.mollykatephotography.com

natalie and i started our own photography business a month or so back.  so far, we're focusing mainly on sports photography (i know, who knew? right?) we are currently shooting high school and pop warner football.  we found a great hosting site that takes care of all the business details and providees our customers with great printed images. which frees us up to spend our time shooting and post processing hundreds of pictures.  and when i say hundreds of images i really mean more like thousands of images so far.  we are both learning a lot about and having fun while doing it.  our galleries are password protected but, if are curious to see our work, you can find the passwords on the MKP site.  oh, and hey....want us to shoot you?  just ask!  we give extra special TLC to our friends and family!

lastly, i joined a gym. again.

after doing jenny for over a year (and havingsuccess with it) it just wasn't fitting into my life like it once had so i knew i had to find another path.  i now workout with a personal trainer twice a week and take classes the other two days.  i've been at it consistently for a little over a month now and i'm staring to see the beginnings of some results.  it feels good to be active again, {although it does suck up a lot of my free time.}  not that i'm complaining though.  =)

oh, and i can't forget to add my weekend excursions to south florida to spend time with ming.  we take turns visiting and although i truly enjoy spending time with his family and friends, i do love it when it's his turn to come my way.  =)

so, what have you been up to lately?

    September 11, 2008

    7 years ago today

i was driving to work and listening to howard stern as per my usual morning routine when i heard them talking about a plane hitting the twin towers.  i was headed to Arnold Palmer Hospital and i remember wondering if anyone at work knew what was going on?  i parked in the garage and got into the elevator with a total stranger.  i remember looking at her and saying, "have you been listening to the radio? have you heard what's happening in NY?"

when i got to the department, the first person i talked to was my friend gayle.  everyone had {of course} heard the news and there was a feeling of nervousness and panic in the air.  little work got done that day as friends and strangers alike huddled around computers, radios and tv waiting for updates, sharing concerns and tears.

little did we know then that this event would change life as we know it.  today we have a pre 9/11 world and a post 9/11 world and you still hear people refer to the events on 9/11 on a daily basis.

today, as i'm thinking about this, i wonder if we'll ever get back to our pre 9/11 world?  remember when you could meet your loved ones at the gate at the airport?  and no one cared about what liquids you were caring and if they were 3 oz or less?  i go through all the procedures without question, i know it's for the greater good.  its a minor inconvenience and not much else.

sadly, i've become so accustomed to the routines in our post 9/11 world that i often times forget to remember exactly why it is that we have altered our lives.

    today i remember.

    lemon square wednesday

so, there's a starbucks kiosk in the lobby at the hospital where i work.  each day they get a variety of pastries, and while they always look good, i can usually resist them.  i was safe until i tried the lemon squares.  omg.  they are so delish.  wednesdays are the day that these mouth watering treats appear and call my name.  this is also the same day that i usually say to hell with my diet and treat myself to one of these sweet confections; a pattern soon developed and the name lemon square wednesday was born.

my co-workers now call wednesdays, LSW and i've got the girls at starbucks referring to wednesdays as LSW too.

the past two LSW's though, there were no lemon squares.  one week, a doctor's office bought the entire tray of squares and the next week, i don't know what happened, all i know is that they weren't there and there were some key lime crumb cake, lemon-sqaure-wanna-be in their place.

it was very sad.  tragic even.

fastforward to today.  i had kinda forgotten about LSW since i haven't had one in 2 weeks.  i walk into the lobby and i hear my name.  it's the starbucks girl is calling my name and saying "look, it's LSW!"  she then goes on to say that she tried to call me and let me know but, that i wasn't at my desk.

so, while i'm excited that today is LSW; i'm also wondering if it's a bad thing that i've become known for liking these lemon squares so much? i am the lemon square wednesday girl.  when the starbucks girls see lemon squares, they think of me.

i guess there are worse things to be known for? right?
